The Compact Mediation Scheme applies to disputes relating to the national Compact on Relations between Government and the Voluntary and Community Sector in England. Its scope includes central Government departments, their executive agencies, Government Offices for the Regions and all voluntary and community sector organisations.
The Compact states that “As far as possible disagreements over the application of the framework should be resolved between the parties … mediation may be a useful way to try to reach agreement”.
The Compact Mediation Scheme has therefore been established to provide the opportunity to resolve a dispute where one party feels that the Compact has been infringed, through the most effective method of alternative dispute resolution, mediation.
The scheme is administered by CEDR Solve under a contract awarded by the Home Office in January 2003.
