Adversarial discussion fails to reach agreement but is well received!
This month at the London School of Economics, CEDR held its first annual Adversarial Principal panel discussion on the adversarial nature of our society at which the celebrated line up of speakers were Greg Dyke (former BBC Director General), Lord Evans (Government Spokesperson in the Lords), Baroness Kennedy (Barrister and Broadcaster) and Alan Rusbridger (Editor of The Guardian). The panel, whose co-chairs were Lord Hurd (former Foreign Secretary) and Eileen Carroll (Mediator and Deputy Chief Executive of CEDR), addressed an audience of selected guests from the worlds of civil justice, politics, the media and academia.

Mediation Audit
CEDR has announced the launch of the 2007 Mediation Audit. The biannual CEDR Mediation Audit has since its inception in 2003, become the 'go to' document for information on the size and shape of the commercial mediation market in the UK.

In the previous audit in 2005 CEDR found that while the market had grown by 35 per cent to 2700 mediations a year, there were only 70 full time mediators with a mere 34 per cent mediating half of all cases (earning in excess of £170,000 from mediations annually). The survey also found that only 17 per cent of mediators were women (as compared to the legal profession, in which 42 per cent of all solicitors are women).
