2008 CEDR Awards for Excellence in ADR - call for entries

The announcement of the biennial CEDR Awards for Excellence in ADR - the seventh occasion of their offering - marks a further milestone in what has been an eventful period for effective dispute resolution and conflict management.  Since the last awards in 2006, the UK market for mediation services has grown by a further 33 per cent, reflecting an increasing and ever-widening recognition of the role that ADR processes can play in mitigating the costs of litigation and poor conflict management.  And this change is also evident on the international scene - with numerous jurisdictions now introducing mediation pilots, and mediators increasingly being called in to help resolve international disputes.

With so many notable achievements in the field, the CEDR Awards look forward to receiving a variety of high quality and impressive entries - and possibly even surpassing 2006's record number of 21 finalists across the seven awards categories.

An award will be made in each category to the organisation which the awards panel considers demonstrates the best or most creative use of ADR; and/or demonstrates professional excellence in ADR and conflict prevention or management. Awards will be made in the following categories: Business, Professions, Public Sector, Innovation, International achievement, the Tony Curtis Award for achievement by a young person in the field of ADR, Publication or article.

The Awards Panel, to be announced shortly, will be composed of leading members from all sectors of the ADR and legal community. In 2006 the panel of judges was Robert Ivens of Marks & Spencer, the Hon Mr Justice Lightman of the High Court, Phillip Naughton QC of 3 Serjeant's Inn Chambers, Sir Brian Neill of 20 Essex Street Chambers (and former Chair of the Civil Mediation Council), Joanna Page of Allen & Overy, David Pearson of The Treasury Solicitors and Deborah Prince of Which? (The Consumers' Association).

The closing date for awards entries is Monday 14 July 2008 and short-listed entrants will be notified on the third week of September 2008. Announcement of the winners will take place at the Annual Mediation Dinner 2008 to be held on 12 November 2008 at the Chancery Renaissance, London. Tickets for this event will go on sale on 1st April 2008.
