CEDR training

CEDR Mediation Advocacy Skills - Dublin

Increased court activism and experience of both lawyers and clients in mediation means that today's representatives must be able to realise the potential that the process holds for their clients.

Having trained teams of lawyers within many of the top Irish national and international law firms, CEDR is bringing its successful Mediation Advocacy Skills training to Dublin as an open course for a limited number of delegates.

The course provides practitioners who may have little experience of the process with the much needed skills to meet the demands of representing clients in today's mediations.

The course programme

Through interactive exercises, case studies and role playing, the course covers:

  • Understanding mediation as a dispute resolution process
  • The Implications of the Mediation Bill 2012
  • Reaching agreement to mediate - when to choose mediation, early case assessment
  • Preparing your case, client and legal team - roles and strategies
  • Getting the most out of the mediation day.

Who should attend?

Solicitors (contentious and non-contentious), barristers and in-house counsel.

The programme will be tailored to accommodate the level of pre-existing knowledge, experience and seniority of the delegates.

Comments from previous delegates

“Very thorough information and effective interactive approach”

“The course was very good in every way”

Why should you do the course?

"The establishment of alternative methods of resolving issues, alternative to court proceedings, has great merit in that issues more appropriate to alternative methods of resolution may be decided outside the courts."
Chief Justice Susan Denham, O'Brien v Personal Injuries Assessment Board [2008] IESC 71

"I have become a stronger supporter of mediation, and I have become a convert, because I have seen how effective it is as a way of resolving disputes. I have seen what appeared to be the most intractable of disputes being resolved, very effectively."
Mr. Justice Peter Kelly, speaking at the launch of CEDR Ireland, October 2011

"For mediation as a process to take hold in this country there is a need to heighten public consciousness as well as that of legal practitioners and other professions of its usefulness, its value and its availability "
Former Chief Justice, Mr. Justice John Murray, 2010
