The trainers
CEDR's Training Faculty is comprised of over 30 professionals and offers a unique combination of HR, legal and business backgrounds. All faculty members are practising mediators with considerable experience employment and workplace mediation.

Programme content
Equipping participants with a broad perspective on conflict management, the programme focuses specifically on the process of mediation within organisations and the skills required to resolve workplace disputes. It includes:

  • a review of dispute resolution methods including a comparison of negotiation, arbitration and mediation
  • instruction and practice in workplace mediation skills and process including the structure and phases of mediation and the necessary communication skills
  • the mediation sessions are interspersed with practical group discussions covering the key issues faced by the internal mediator such as: establishing and maintaining neutrality when within an organisation; issues surrounding confidentiality of the process and outcomes; and creating sustainable solutions.

Days 1 and 2
By alternating the methods of demonstration and practice we take delegates through the phases of training from the first day of the course. Skills and process are looked at and tried in practical exercises. Case studies, based on actual workplace mediations, are used throughout and participants will experience the roles of mediator and mediation party.

Day 3
This is a full day dedicated to 'practice’ enabling significant shared learning in a safe environment. The role-plays on this day increase in complexity and afford participants an opportunity to practise the skills required at each stage of mediation. The training faculty actively coach each mediator during his or her practice sessions and provide one-to-one private feedback for their future development.

This course does not include assessment of participants' mediation skills, however assessment for CEDR accreditation is available as a follow on option, at additional cost.
