Cross cultural negotiation

There has been a significant rise in international negotiations in the last two decades. In an increasingly globalized world, more and more businesses are conducting their affairs across borders. Never has it been more important for lawyers and business people to know how to negotiate effectively in a cross-cultural environment.

Danny McFadden is Director of CEDR's Asia Initiative and has 20 years experience in negotiation, mediation and international business. Danny is fluent in both Mandarin Chinese and Indonesian and has worked throughout Asia including Taiwan, China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and Hong Kong.

Over the course of the hour Danny will discuss how a negotiator’s interests, priorities and use of strategies are influenced by his culture. He will examine how cultural differences in negotiation, if not handled appropriately, can often prove to be deal-breakers or result in miscommunication leading to future disputes. He will share strategies and techniques used by experienced, successful international negotiators.
