A practical guide to mediation

CEDR mediation seminar - "A Practical Guide to Mediation"

This two hour seminar has been designed to provide participants with a thorough introduction into mediation and the associated processes. Drawing on the content of our seminar series, this practical guide will cover the topics most frequently requested and focus on how these will effect those involved with the mediation.

Each awareness raising seminar will be personally delivered by a senior CEDR Accredited mediator and is suitable for a wide audience, from trainees to partners. The seminar will be delivered directly in-house within your organisation.

What you will learn:

  • Introduction to mediation in the UK - what is mediation? What are the benefits of using it?
  • CPR and Case Law - the Civil Procedure Rules 1999, the CPR as updated in April 2003, a discussion of recent case law including Halsey and review of the effect of recent case law on the advice lawyers are, or should be, giving to clients.
  • Organising a mediation - the stages of the mediation process, factors to consider when choosing a mediation, information on using a mediation provider.
  • On the day - '5 processes of mediation' - Preparing, Opening, Exploring, Negotiation, Settlement - drafting the agreement.
