Those in leadership positions will often find themselves in situations where they are having to manage conflict. However, despite the extensive material on leadership there has been surprisingly little on how the leader personally handles conflict and deals with it.
We are considering "New Leadership" from two angles.
"New Leadership" - Leadership skills for the 21st Century leader
As part of CEDR's work in resolving conflict, we are researching the particular factors at play within this area to develop the concept of "New Leadership" or the way that a leader in the 21st Century handles internal and external conflict. Our work is designed to look at leadership beyond business sectors, to also consider leadership within international relations, political spheres and in public, charitable and volunteer organisations.
"New Leadership" - Encouraging young and aspiring leaders to gain skills in negotiation and conflict management
The second aspect of our new leadership work is to look at young and aspiring leaders and the skills that they need within ADR. CEDR will be announcing several projects soon which we are involved with. One project which we have already launched is the National Student Negotiation Competition which supports young negotiators from the UK learn skills in Negotiation which will stand them in stead for their future careers as lawyers and business people.
