Launch of CEDR Foundation's National Student Negotiation Competition 2019
CEDR is delighted to announce the launch of the 2019 National Student Negotiation Competition for England, Scotland and Wales.
As of 2019, we are pleased to welcome Scottish students to enter the competition.
The competition, which is organised and sponsored by CEDR in collaboration with the University of Law, pits pairs of Law Students from across England, Scotland and Wales against each other to negotiate a series of challenging fictional scenarios. The National Winners will receive the competition trophy, a cash prize and entry to the International Competition. This year, the International Final will be hosted in Tokyo, Japan.
The National competition consists of regional heats in Bristol, Chester, Leeds and London, as well as the National Final and Finals dinner, which this year is being held at Cardiff University, Wales.

In the regional heats, teams will each take part in 2 scenarios. 12 teams will progress to the National Final, where teams will participate in 3 new scenarios (including a three-way negotiation).
As in previous years, CEDR is providing webinars for all entered students in the skills of negotiation. This is designed to give all students whatever their level of experience, the opportunity to hone their skills in advance of the competition.
CEDR will also be offering a free day’s training session in Negotiation for the Finalists of the competition to allow them to develop advanced skills.
Eligibility and How to Apply
The competition is open to all students currently studying for an undergraduate, postgraduate or professional qualification in law or an aligned area at an institution in England, Scotland or Wales.
Students who have previously reached the National Final may not re-enter the competition.
Students may also not enter the competition on more than two occasions (regardless of outcome).
Each institution may enter up to 2 teams for the competition. Each team entry must be accompanied by an entry fee of £75 + VAT (£90 total) per team.
The deadline for applications is 5pm on Monday 21 January 2019. Early application is encouraged as we have a maximum of 70 teams that can enter the competition and we will operate a waiting list after this.
