London, 5 April 2017
CEDR is delighted to announce that the winners of the CEDR organised National Student Negotiation Competition for England and Wales 2017 are George Spence-Jones and Joanne Twomey representing the University of Law, Bloomsbury.
The Grand Final which took place at the University of Law, Moorgate on Saturday 1 April, saw 12 pairs of Finalists from across England take part in three different, challenging negotiations in front of a panel of Judges including legal practitioners, former winners and qualified CEDR mediators and Negotiation experts. The 2017 competition was bigger than ever with 70 teams from across the country taking part in regional rounds in Bristol, Chester, Leeds and London in February 2017 for a chance to reach the Final. As part of their prize on reaching the Final, all 24 finalists received a day’s training from CEDR in Advanced Negotiation Skills.
Frederick Way, Negotiation Consultant and Manager of the CEDR Foundation stated that “It was great to see so many genuinely excellent negotiators in the competition and all of the Finalists should be proud of what they have achieved. CEDR organises this competition as part of its not-for-profit Foundation activity because we appreciate the importance of developing negotiation skills for the next generation of lawyers and business-people. We were delighted to see the skills that we had trained the students in being deployed to great effect in the Final with the students thinking about not only the content of their negotiations but also effective process and relationship skills.”
As National Champions, the University of Law, Bloomsbury will now represent England and Wales at the International Final in Oslo, Norway in June 2017.
The runners up in the Competition were Elliot Hatfield and Jessica Osmond from the University of Winchester and third place went to Amrit Singh Gill and Cheng Li Ke from University College London.
