Susanne Schuler is the Director of Training & Consultancy at CEDR and joined the organisation in 2013. As part of her role, she contributes a combination of strategic input, leadership and delivery across the entire range of CEDR training and consultancy services, with a primary focus on CEDR’s conflict consultancy programmes.
Susanne is a Mediator, Intercultural Facilitator and Conflict Coach. She spends most of her time helping organisations reverse conflict, build trust through discovering purpose, and, facilitating the growth of peace centred equity. Her work stretches from Mongolia to the Americas and from Finland down to Rwanda.
Her legal studies, business experience and her work in diversity combine effectively in her mediation and consultancy role. She speaks 5 languages fluently and has worked in more than 30 different countries.
Susanne works with international organisations such as Bloomberg, KPMG, SAP, BASF, Unilever, Roche, Novartis, Syngenta, IKEA, P&G, and institutions such as the UN and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development as well as major UK organisations including the BBC and Lloyds Bank.
Susanne has worked with over 3,000 people from more than 30 different nationalities in negotiation techniques, mediation, conflict management, and diversity and inclusion. Susanne leads also a programme focused on resolving board conflicts which she delivers around the world.
In 2018 she brought together leading figures in the world of peacemaking to initiate an open peacemaking course (the first of a series) based on the Oxford Process and CEDR’s mediation process.
Susanne introduces special individuals possessing high value assets to each other through active public speaking, facilitating group trainings, and, when working in support of senior women’s groups.
Many, who have had the privilege of working with her, describe her as an essential critical friend, providing invaluable insights and feedback when most needed, and, as somebody who is there for the bad times, not just the good ones.
Susanne has written papers, articles on effective conflict resolution and negotiation in French, German and English, amongst those the first chapter for Bloomsbury’s “How to Master Negotiation”. She has also authored a book on Conflict Management and Cultural Diversity – an introduction to the two subjects published for the corporate market by Bookboon, Denmark.
Born in Namibia, Susanne has lived, studied and worked in Germany, Switzerland, Spain, France, Belgium, the Americas and the UK.
She holds memberships of Chatham House, the British Sociological Society and the Civil Mediation Council (UK). Susanne is a CEDR accredited mediator and she is also accredited mediator in Germany and Switzerland. She has undertaken specialist training in Coaching Across Cultures with Prof. Rosinski and has achieved the Advanced Conflict Transformation Certificate with Prof. Galtung.
