CPD Master Class Seminar: Pursuing Diversity
In 2020, achieving diversity in different aspects of life, including the law, has become a very visible issue. In the first CEDR Master Class of 2020, former US Federal Judge Hon. Timothy K. Lewis will discuss how to make progress on diversity.
The alternative dispute resolution field has developed creative techniques to address complex problems and bridge differences between individuals, corporations, and even nations. Arbitration and mediation, in particular, have often supplanted court systems as the most effective and confidential means to resolve important commercial disputes. Unfortunately, diversity and inclusion have not been meaningfully achieved among the ranks of those selected to serve as neutrals, as women, people of colour and other minorities remain largely excluded from fully active participation.
Judge, Hon. Timothy K. Lewis, now Counsel at US law firm Schnader, will discuss this challenge and what it means for our collective performance, and address methods to address it. A retired U.S. Court of Appeals Judge for the Third Circuit, he was the youngest federal judge in the United States when President George H W Bush elevated him to the Court of Appeals in 1992.
