CEDR has trained a group of tax professionals and commercial mediators in mediation and conflict management skills for dealing with tax disputes between HMRC, businesses and individuals.
These professionals act as intermediaries in a number of ways. They can:
- Act as a mediator, tasked to manage negotiations with a view to assisting the parties achieve an agreed settlement to the issues between them
- Act as a facilitator, working with the parties specifically to unblock a communication issue or to clarify mutual understanding of a particular situation or position
- Serve as a neutral chair of a meeting
