Katey Martin

Katey served for 30 years in law enforcement, beginning her career on the front line in Brixton during the 1990s. After a decade in operational policing, she specialised in public-order and later became a full-time negotiator. Her career progressed to national and international leadership roles in hostage, crisis and counter terrorism negotiation. Trained by both the FBI and Scotland Yard, Katey was a full-time negotiator for 10 years and a founding member of the UK Counter Terrorism Negotiation Team, established in response to the Paris terror attacks. She served as the national lead for Counter Terrorism Negotiation training, delivering programmes on behalf of the UK Government to law enforcement agencies around the world, and at coronial request following the 2014 terror attack in Sydney, Australia. Katey represented the UK in Counter Terrorism Negotiation across Europe for six years. During this time, she co-authored the EU’s first official guidance on Counter Terrorism Negotiation and delivered the first EU Counter Terrorism Negotiation courses - helping shape negotiation training across the continent and enhancing international security. As a former Hostage, Crisis, and Counter Terrorism Negotiator, Kidnap Commander, and member of the UK’s international cadre of negotiators, Katey has extensive experience managing kidnap cases both in the UK and overseas. She is also a qualified Suicide First Aid© tutor for the National Centre for Suicide Prevention Education and Training (NCSPET). Her first-hand experience handling real-life crisis incidents in London brings unique depth and authenticity to her training delivery.
