Malcolm Currie
EWMST Lead
Short Introduction
I’m passionate about helping others build confidence and capability through training that’s grounded in real-world experience.
A frequent user of action-centred learning, I create immersive and realistic training scenarios that reflect the complexities of workplace conflict and negotiation. With over 25 years in industrial relations, I’ve trained professionals across sectors in mediation, negotiation, and collective bargaining.
What motivates me most is seeing people apply what they’ve learned to make meaningful, lasting change in their organisations.
About Work
Malcolm is an experienced trainer and facilitator specialising in workplace conflict resolution, negotiation, and collective bargaining. He designs and delivers structured programmes for professionals across the public, private and third sectors, using action-centred learning to create immersive and realistic scenarios.
His training is grounded in over 25 years of experience in industrial relations and a strong understanding of UK-wide employment law, ensuring relevance and practical application across diverse organisational settings.
His broader work in dispute resolution – including mediation, facilitated negotiation, management-staff partnership and strategic coaching – provides a rich foundation for his training delivery. Drawing on this wide expertise he equips learners with practical tools to address complex workplace challenges and build effective relationships.
A Visiting Lecturer at Queen Margaret University, he delivers undergraduate course modules on Mediation and Negotiation and leads a postgraduate module on Collective Bargaining. These academic roles complement his professional training practice, allowing him to integrate current research, policy developments and sector-specific insights into his teaching.
He is accredited as a mediator through both Scottish Mediation and CEDR, a CEDR Associate and member of the CEDR Mediation Panel and Mediation Skills Training Faculty.
He's also a Faculty Member with the International Training Centre of the ILO focusing on Negotiation Skills, Collective Bargaining and Conciliation of Collective Labour Disputes.
His experience in strategic lobbying and developing partnerships enhances his training in areas such as organisational change, leadership, and long-term transformation planning, offering learners a broader understanding of how conflict resolution fits within wider institutional frameworks.
