Matthew Molloy
Mediator & Chartered Quantity Surveyor
Short Introduction
I’ve spent my career in construction and engineering, from chartered quantity surveyor to full time dispute resolver, appointed in 1000+ disputes. I know intrinsically how stressful projects can become when things go wrong, and I’m motivated to help resolve issues early, saving relationships, time and costs. What I value most about mediation is its human side including listening, building trust, and finding fair solutions. As a father of four adult children, I truly understand about resilience and perspective.

About Work
Since forming MCMS in 1996, I have specialised in providing quantity surveying services, contract advice and, most notably, dispute resolution services to a wide variety of clients in the UK and internationally. As an experienced dispute resolver, my time is now spent acting as a mediator, as well as adjudicator, arbitrator, expert determiner or dispute avoidance board member, having been appointed in over 1000 construction and engineering disputes.
Specifically, I have been a CEDR-Accredited mediator since 2000 and was admitted to the CEDR panel in 2016. I act as mediator in relation to construction and property related disputes, including complex multi-party disputes, disputes involving public and private bodies, private individuals and insured professionals.
As a mediator, I bring together a deep understanding of all forms of dispute resolution with a natural flair for creating innovative solutions to construction and engineering disputes. Drawing on my considerable experience and expertise as a construction industry adjudicator, chartered arbitrator and expert witness, I am able to adopt an evaluative style if the parties and I consider it appropriate to do so, which sometimes involves giving a sensible recommendation, based on years of industry experience. I am comfortable with either a facilitative or evaluative style, or a combination of both. My style is best described as calm, objective, decisive, fair and focused. Thanks to my training and experience in the law, I get to the legal and commercial issues swiftly, guiding the parties to negotiate mutually acceptable and informed solutions.
