Andy Grossman
Conflict Management Trainer
Short Introduction
A seasoned conflict specialist helping people make tough conversations easier and building stronger teams. Through a mix of training, coaching, facilitating and advising, I have worked around the world with charities, businesses and public bodies, helping people and to develop constructive responses to their challenges in working together and with their business partners.
About Work
I started my career as an architect with an international civil engineering consultancy, then joined a niche consultancy specialising in specialist healthcare projects before starting my own practice.
My observations on how inefficiently people resolved problems on projects drew me to CEDR where I spent over 25+ years in both senior management and client-facing roles.
While at CEDR I led many consultancy and institutional capacity building programmes with development banks and international agencies on civil justice reform, business stability and anti-corruption initiatives, providing technical assistance and delivering mediation, conflict management and negotiation training in 40 countries.
Examples of my work in organisations include clarifying roles in global consultancy teams, building behavioural agreements between managers and staff, addressing board-level disputes in charities and not-for-profits, and supporting international organisations with conflict management strategy, communication and psychological safety.
I have also authored several advisory publications on behalf of CEDR. These include chapters in Effective Conflict Management (ICSA Publishing, 2013), How to Master Negotiation (Bloomsbury, 2015), CEDR’s ADR Guide for Public Authorities, ADR Guide for Local Authorities in Public Private Partnerships, CEDR Rules for Adjudication and Dispute Resolution Procedure for PFI and Long-Term Contracts (which formed the basis of government guidance) and Guidance for Collaborative Working and Preventing Your Organisational Grievances. I also authored the Royal Institute of British Architects’ Good Practice Guide to Mediation and the International Finance Corporation’s Construction Mediator Guide.
