“Thanks Matt, I have to say I didn’t think you’d get it over the line but many thanks for all that you’ve done.”

Overview

Matthew has worked in the construction industry since 1987. He qualified as a Chartered Quantity Surveyor in 1993, having completed his studies whilst working with a national contractor. After qualification he joined a regional contractor where, after undertaking an MSc in Construction Management and qualifying as a Chartered Builder, he progressed to contracts management. Since forming MCMS in 1996, Matthew has specialised in providing quantity surveying services, contract advice and dispute resolution services to a wide variety of clients. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and a Chartered Arbitrator, and is a member of the Academy of Experts. He trained as a mediator with CEDR, and was called to the Bar in 2001. He has been appointed as adjudicator and arbitrator on over 450 occasions, acting as tribunal in construction and engineering disputes ranging in value up to £87m, including PFI, PPP and utility contracts.

Professional Background

Matthew also acts as mediator in relation to construction and property related disputes including complex multi-party disputes, disputes involving public and private bodies, private individuals and insured professionals. Drawing on his considerable experience and expertise as a construction industry adjudicator, chartered arbitrator and expert witness, he is increasingly being asked to adopt an evaluative style if he considers it appropriate to do so, which sometimes involves giving a recommendation. Matt is comfortable with either a facilitative or evaluative style, or a combination of both. Matthew also acts as an expert determiner.
