CPD Masterclass — What we can learn from Environmental Disputes

Our next Masterclass takes place on Monday 21 February and we are very fortunate to announce one of the world’s leading experts on environmental dialogue and dispute resolution, Professor Lawrence Susskind, as our speaker.
In this session, chaired by Lawrence’s long-term colleague and friend, Dr Karl Mackie CBE, CEDR’s Founder President, we will explore what the resolution of environmental disputes can teach us about mediating in other sectors. Furthermore, what adaptations and innovation are necessary for dealing with a global crisis like climate change or future pandemics.
Professor Susskind is an Author, City Planner, Mediator and Ford Professor of Urban and Environmental Planning at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
He has a long list of accolades, having published many books ranging from negotiation, consensus-building and managing climate risks in cities, to name just a few. His most recent publications include:

In the past few years, Professor Susskind’s research has focused on
- Entrepreneurial Negotiations;
- Ways of building consensus on local, state and national adaptive responses to the likely impacts of climate change strategies for encouraging greater reliance on renewable energy
- Water Diplomacy);
- Cybersecurity for Critical Urban Infrastructure;
- Siting of Renewable Energy Facilities in the United States; and
- Science Diplomacy.[1]
