As Head of Construction & Engineering Dispute Resolution at Gowling WLG, and uniquely qualified as both a Chartered Quantity Surveyor and Solicitor, he combines technical, commercial and legal expertise to help parties resolve high-value and technically complex disputes.
 
Michael is particularly recognised for his work in construction contracts, delay and disruption claims, defects disputes, valuation and quantum issues, infrastructure projects, PFI and PPP disputes, and multi party construction conflicts. Michael O'Shea specialises in mediating construction and engineering disputes and regularly assists contractors, developers, consultants, public authorities, specialist subcontractors and project stakeholders involved in major construction, infrastructure and property developments.
 
Before becoming a mediator, Michael qualified and practised as a Quantity Surveyor before requalifying as a Solicitor. This dual perspective gives him a detailed understanding of the technical, contractual and commercial issues that underpin construction disputes. He has advised on some of the UK's largest and most complex projects and is recognised as a leading practitioner in construction dispute resolution.
 
His mediation experience includes final account disputes, defects claims, extension of time and delay claims, loss and expense disputes, fire safety issues, professional negligence matters, termination disputes and complex multi-party construction cases involving infrastructure, transport, sports facilities, healthcare and residential developments.
