Short Introduction
I have worked in many occupations, many of them blue collar from fisherman, farmer, steelworker, laborer to real estate agent, businessman and lawyer. Like others before me I had not planned to fall down the rabbit hole and enter the magical world of dispute resolution.
Working with my CEDR faculty colleagues always motivates me. I am proud of seeing CEDR accredited mediators I have been privileged to train taking the skills they have acquired out into the world.
About Work
Basically I regard training as fun and delight in working with participants who are just starting out on their mediation journey.
With a focus on Asia I have acted as an expert trainer in dispute resolution for numerous organizations in over 20 countries. Some close at home like Ireland and Sweden, others more far flung like Mongolia and Cameroon. My career includes acting as the interim Director of Mediation at the United Nations in New York. I was given the wonderful opportunity to co-ordinate the establishment of the UN Mediation Office. I have acted as on-call mediator for the World Bank for over 11 years and am currently regional mediator in Asia for International Monetary Fund. I am a fluent Mandarin speaker which has opened the door to my training and mediating in China. Much to my surprise in 2023 the Chinese Supreme Court appointed me as an Expert in Mediation which they said was in recognition of my assisting in the promotion of modern mediation in China over many years.
