CEDR has been a prime mover in the development of alternative methods of resolving disputes and mediation both in the UK and internationally since its inception in 1989. It has been instrumental in assisting mediation organisations to develop in their own countries and lobbied vigorously to raise awareness and encourage development of in country and cross-border mediation and its experts have been sought for advice, training and mediations worldwide.

CEDR has assisted in a number of ways:
Civil Justice Development
CEDR has partnered with a number of international funding organisations to improve their clients' Civil Justice systems through the introduction of mediation processes. Assistance typically involves research and analysis of existing judicial systems, design of court mediation pilot schemes, mediator training programmes and awareness raising programmes.
CEDR Solve – CEDR's dispute resolution service
In the past two decades CEDR has facilitated or mediated some of the most prominent international disputes across many sectors including Atlantic Computers and BCCI.
Skills Solutions
Internationally, CEDR has trained over 900 mediators in 50 countries, (excluding the UK) many as part of a wider programme to assist in the development and growth of mediation, programmes which have also included training judges, advocates and business people. CEDR has also delivered conflict management training to a number of international organisations to enable better management of conflict.
