Dates: March 2011 – on-going
Watch James South, CEDR Director of Training, and Heather Allen, CEDR Head of Faculty, introduce
the International ADR Trainers Network
“The ADR Trainers Network on webinars not only helps us to refresh our own knowledge but also helps us to understand the perspective of trainers from diversified cultural backgrounds. It helps immensely to build consistency and harmonized approach towards ADR and ADR Trainings.”
Neelofar Hammed, International Industries Ltd, Karachi, Pakistan
The International ADR Trainers Network, created by CEDR in 2011, brings together high quality trainers to provide a forum for the sharing of ideas about current practice worldwide, innovations in the field of ADR training delivery, developing Standards and Good Practice for ADR Trainers.
The Network provides a quarterly online forum for ADR professionals to have an open discussion with leading CEDR trainers and other peers about the developments in ADR practice and training, their experiences and learning.
The global participants, from Ukraine, South Africa, Greece, Nigeria, Pakistan and the UK are all CEDR Mediator Skills Training Alumni and are hosted by CEDR in an online meeting platform giving them the chance to share views and opinions and keep up to date with the latest developments in training here at CEDR.
About the Network
Since February 2011, the CEDR has hosted quarterly two hour internet based webcam discussion group sessions looking at training development. In each session participants decide what the next session will examine.
Prior to the last virtual meeting, participants watched and assessed a mock mediator assessment video online. In the subsequent session James South, Director of Training, and Heather Allen, Head of CEDR Faculty, with an online group of nine ADR trainers, reviewed their marking and compared and contrasted the outcomes.
In future sessions participants have requested further discussion regarding assessment, and also information on how to give effective feedback.
This on-going project not only aims to facilitate the sharing of learning about training delivery in different cultures but also to steadily improve standards of training and thus bring a greater level of satisfaction in mediation in participating countries.

“This project will help us to standardise training and also the quality of training. Learning from the experience of other trainers is particularly important for those of us who do not get the chance to train with CEDR mediators more than once a year.”
Funmi Roberts, Funmi Roberts & Co, Nigeria
“The long term impact of this project is very clear. Better access to justice for people, better training, less strain on our judiciary as well as a fairer system of dispute resolution.”
Ayesha Sarfaz, ASI, Pakistan
“This will no doubt enhance their skills as coaches and assessors, and contribute to the quality of training of civil and commercial mediators in South Africa.”
